Manufacturing & Process

Did you know?

Claims in the manufacturing industry make up about 30% of all SR&ED claims. Claims in manufacturing can include activities such as detailed trial runs of a new injection molding process, which would include experimental data and results. Another example would be renovation to an existing machine to improve lifetime, operation speed, and reliability.

However, more often than not, more of the SR&ED is shop floor SR&ED, where the technical team finds a problem during crunch time and needs to experiment to find a solution or production will shutdown. This is no less eligible for SR&ED. We can show you how to keep sufficient documentation to show the problems that you encountered and the approach that you are taking.

In the manufacturing setting, its always good to get engaged early, but there are many sources of evidence to show that you have done SR&ED even if you are at the end of your claim period. You may have prototypes or scrap material that make for solid evidence if the CRA should choose to review your file, evidence is key to a strong manufacturing claim, that would otherwise be considered routine.
